Our first OAE CO-OP of the year!
Yesterday, we kicked off this year's Homeschool OAE Co-op! 22 homeschool students come out to camp once a month to experience Twin Oak's 1,000 acres of wonder. The goal of the co-op is to grow our sense of wonder and knowledge of the Lord's gift of creation. Students are encouraged to look at nature and learn all they can about it. We start and end our sessions in God's Word. Yesterday, we read from Psalm 8 about the Lord's majestic and glorious name in the morning and ended our day with the creation story in Genesis 1. After that, we took our monthly weather measurements and headed into the woods! We hike to the same spot every month to sit and bask in nature while observing the woods and wetlands around us. The students draw pictures and record what they see, hear, smell, and touch in their field journals. Each month, we'll go on a learning expedition. This session's expedition was taking plants, native to Minnesota, that we sowed and grew over the winter, to a small prairie and transferring them to the ground. Later in the day, we enjoyed some time on our boating pond. It was amazing to sit on a paddle boat and explore the pond with the beautiful backdrop of fall colors! We had a blast with this first session and are looking forward to spending more time with these students throughout the year.
