Ministry Overview

Inspiration Point is a healthy, growing Christian camp and retreat center that was dedicated in 1963. Attendance has grown steadily in the past decade at this biblically-based ministry, requiring an expansion to two separate sites – Spitzer Lake and Twin Oaks (opening in 2020). The mission of Inspiration Point is to, by God's grace, provide time and space for people to encounter Christ.

Ministry Overview

Inspiration Point is a non-profit organization owned by the Central and Western Regions of the Church of the Lutheran Brethren. A nine-member board of directors oversees the ministry of the camp. Campers and guests arrive from communities scattered primarily throughout a five-state region.

The year-round staff currently includes the following full-time positions:

Part-time positions include: Housekeeper, bookkeeper, assistant cooks, and other hourly workers. In the summer, we hire approximately seventy-five additional staff members.

Inspiration Point - Spitzer Lake

Inspiration Point at Spitzer Lake is located on a 41-acre wooded peninsula surrounded by the waters of 800-acre, Spitzer Lake. We operate or host more than 100 events on-site each year, consisting of programmed retreats and rental group events, as well as youth and family camps in the summer months. Additionally, we provide Day Camp in more than 30 communities across seven states. More than 9,000 campers and guests are served on approximately 215 different days each year.

The Spitzer Lake site consists of three residences, a chapel, two amphitheaters, 6-unit motel, a maintenance building, an activity center, a gymnasium, an administration building, six cabins, three buildings with private rooms that accommodate a total of 176, a main lodge (dining room, worship center, giftshop, and 36-bed retreat center), a showerhouse, waterfront, meeting rooms, a large game area, and woods. Ten of these facilities have been added since 1989 and the others have all been completely renovated. Facilities are heated and air-conditioned and all but one are available for year-round use. We can serve groups of up to 250 throughout the year.

Inspiration Point - Twin Oaks

The Twin Oaks site lies 12 miles northeast of Spitzer Lake. It will open in June 2020 with a capacity of 100 campers per week. The site will consist of an office building with a meeting room; the Twin Oaks Center that will house dining, large meeting space, a gameroom, gift and snack shop; a large shelter for outdoor gatherings; a shower house; swimming pool; Hilltop House; two residences; ten cabins; sports pavilion; staff housing; and Twin Oaks Lodge.

This site will serve younger campers (entering grades 1-4), families, some retreats, and rental groups.

Community/Location

Located in west-central Minnesota, the Spitzer Lake site lies 15 minutes southeast of Battle Lake (pop. 800), 35 minutes from Fergus Falls (pop. 13,000) and Alexandria (pop. 15,000), 90 minutes from Fargo/Moorhead (pop. 170,000), and 2 ½ hours from Minneapolis/St. Paul (pop. 3,200,000). Battle Lake has shopping necessities while Fergus Falls and Alexandria have many shopping conveniences. The closest school district to the camp is Battle Lake.
